To all my friends, clients and colleagues:I am writing this note to let you know how I have evolved from the Naturopathic Physician of Arizona to the person I am today. I have been working to help others since I was 13 years old in one facet or another, which included personal to corporate healthcare experiences. In all my life challenges, I have come through them with a new strength of lessons learned. I moved to New Orleans in the summer of 2004, to come back to the area I loved and remember experiencing in the 70’s and 80’s. As I drove into town, I was stunned at the difference from what I remembered, what I had experienced since those years and what was being presented to me now. The main reason I came back to New Orleans was to have a loving, caring relationship with the community and to redevelop personal relationships that I was lacking due to my past schedule of school, children, and financial obligations. I came to a state that was at the bottom in many parameters such as healthcare and helping the people that need the help of others for wellness. The state has the ability to use me in educating the people and providers of healthcare. After spending an entire year consumed in working with the politicians and ‘powers that be’ in the state to license Naturopathic Physicians, I was directed to never refer to myself as a physician and never to diagnose, do medical testing or prescribe in the state as they have no intention of licensing Naturopathic Physicians. I received my Naturopathic Physician training in Tempe Arizona, where we are educated as primary care physicians with a specialty in natural medicine. The educational program was extensive, compared to other medical schools in course work which also included extensive clinical training. The program was four years, year round, in house education in Scottsdale and Tempe, Arizona. With all this training, I felt it difficult to not help others to the best of my knowledge. To be able to provide the Naturopathic Physician services as I was trained for and to protect the patients from harm under the care of others with a less verifiable accredited education, a license is important. Katrina is the storm that I shall never forget. As I was unable to evacuate due to a personal medical emergency, I remained in the area for the duration. Not only did the state legislators take the steam out of creating a license for natural medicine physicians in the state, but Katrina also took the last wind out of my sail. The devastation, the sadness, the hurt, the pain, the struggles, the complete collapse of everything I knew in everyday life, was more of an experience than I have had in the past. Struggles, loss, and pain I had learned from in the past but this was just a bigger and growing piece of the pie. From the very second I finally got out of the area after the storm, which was the fourth day after the water came in, everyone I spoke with wanted to know how I was but what I focused on was how I could help the people, again. In all avenues I went down to bring health services back to the area from outside donations of money, products and professionals, I was again stopped by the state from allowing those services in. At the end of 2005, I took a rest, I took a step back, and I took a step out, and stopped trying to help everyone else and focused on helping family and myself. From this hit, I took the past 16 months looking to see what is important to me. From the position of helping others, I have experienced pain, suffering, loss, devastation, abuse, gratitude, loving, caring, along with immersion or separation from a multitude of experiences. As I looked at the past to decide what I wanted from the future, I have come to the following choices: I will teach, I will help, I will support, I will listen, I will encourage, I will comfort, I will be responsible, I will be there and I will be me. So, what does this look like: At the present time, I will not perform Naturopathic Physician duties of diagnosing, medical testing or any prescribing of medication. I will fill the position of personal health advocate. Therefore, I will listen and help you find a way through all the challenges that have brought you to me. I am here for the asking and will provide consultations to move you through the challenges you are facing. My knowledge, training, experiences and commitment are available to anyone who asks. This information would include healthcare experiences and options, homeopathy, nutrition, lifestyle, emotional support, supplements, botanicals and vitamins. Please read further to schedule a Consultation.. |
